KWODA was formed in 2009 to economically, socially, culturally and politically empower women and girls in Kitgum District Northern Uganda.

KWODA is an association and membership based. It brings together women and girls, women’s groups and organizations that are operating in Kitgum District.

By the end of June 2021, KWODA had 2570 women and girls as individual members as well as 394 women’s groups and organizations all over Kitgum District.

To empower Women socially, culturally, economically and politically through Capacity Building, information dissemination, Networking and advocacy

To improving the standard of living of Women through Implementation of Community Based Projects where women are empowered to address social, economic, cultural and political injustices that affect women

KWODA Objectives

a) To increase women’s access to productive resources and
economic opportunities without discrimination
b) To promote a peaceful and just environment where women and
girls exercise their equal rights as human beings
c) To promote and foster gender equity and equality as well as set
minimum standards for the promotion and protection of the rights
of women and girls.
d) To enhance partnerships with the Local Governments, women’s
Non-Governmental Organizations and women’s Community Based
Organizations to work together to promote and protect the rights of
Women and girls
e) To address the challenges that women and girls face in the daily
operations including the threat of violence, harassment and
discrimination in decision making processes

GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT OF KWODA

Women’s Rights awareness and Promotion.

KWODA Governing Board

1) This is comprised of 4 Women who founded the Association
2) The Governing Board is Responsible for the overall governance of the Association
3) The Governing Board provides overall strategic Direction of the Association

KWODA Members Assembly

1) This brings together all the members of the Association
2) KWODA Members meet twice in year in June and December
3) KWODA Members Assembly is the supreme organ of the Association whose
Decisions override those of lower organs.
4) The Members Assembly reviews and adopts KWODA Constitution.

KWODA Board of Directors

1) The Board is comprised of 9 members including the Executive Director who is the Ex-
Officio to the Board. All Board Members are women
2) Board Members are elected by the members Assembly every after 5 Years
3) The Board of Directors approves financial statements of the Association
4) The Board scrutinizes the auditors’ reports.

KWODA Advisory Board

1) The Advisory Board is comprised of 15 members who constitute the Executive and Planning Committees. All the Advisory Board Members are Women
2) The Executive Committee comprises of 7 Members including the
Executive Director who is the Ex-Officio of the committee
3) The Executive Committee works closely with the Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day executive functions of the Association
4) The Planning Committee is comprised of 8 members including the
Executive Director who is the Ex-Officio to the Committee
5) The Committee works closely with the programs Team to execute the planning function of the Association

KWODA Secretariat

1) KWODA has a Secretariat headed by the Executive Director who is supported by Finance, Operations and Team Managers and other professional staff on a full and part-time basis
2) The Operations Manager works closely with the Executive Director in providing operational support to the Secretariat
3) The Finance Manager is responsible for all the finance functions of the Association. She heads the Finance Department.
4) The Team Manager works closely with the Executive Director and heads the programs Department
5) Each Program has a Program Manager who is assisted by Program Assistant and Project Coordinators

This is comprised of the women and girls we serve as well as other stakeholders we engage as we work to achieve our Mission.
