What we do at KWODA
KWODA has five main strategic Program areas
This program aims at

Women’s Rights awareness and Promotion.

Raising awareness of the Gender specific rights of Women through Community meetings, Roundtables, Public Debates, Sensitization workshops, Training and information dissemination

Research and Advocacy

This program involves developing and implementing strategies that will lead to meaningful policy changes and reform in areas within which KWOAD is involved.

Peacebuilding, Conflict Prevention and Management

This program aims at addressing issues that bring about disputes and
violence which affect women and girls and work towards changing people’s
attitudes and emotions that often fuel tensions.

Integrated Community Development

Through this program area, KWODA is working with women and through individuals and communities to improve on the economic, health and social wellbeing of the rural and urban poor women.

EAST AFRICACRISIS APPEAL

This program aims at building and strengthening KWODA’s capacity to progressively adapt to changing environments so as to continue to effectively and efficiently implement its mandate.

KITGUM WOMEN IN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (KWODA)
BACKGROUND

KWODA was formed in 2009 to economically, socially, culturally and
politically empower women and girls in Kitgum District Northern
Uganda.
2) KWODA is an association and membership based. It brings together women and girls, women’s groups and organizations that areoperating in Kitgum District.
3) By the end of June 2021, KWODA had 2570 women and girls as
individual members as well as 394 women’s groups and organizations all over Kitgum District.

KWODA Vision:

A just and peaceful society with empowered, happy and prosperous women and girls and their dependants.

KWODA Objectives

a) To increase women’s access to productive resources and
economic opportunities without discrimination
b) To promote a peaceful and just environment where women and
girls exercise their equal rights as human beings
c) To promote and foster gender equity and equality as well as set
minimum standards for the promotion and protection of the rights
of women and girls.
d) To enhance partnerships with the Local Governments, women’s
Non-Governmental Organizations and women’s Community Based
Organizations to work together to promote and protect the rights of
Women and girls
e) To address the challenges that women and girls face in the daily
operations including the threat of violence, harassment and
discrimination in decision making processes
